Brevard Equestrian Center

Brevard Equestrian Center was established in Grant, FL in 2003. The facility is situated on approximately 36 acres adjacent to the Indian River where Atlantic breezes keep the horses and riders comfortable year round. We are located close to the Ocala, Orlando and Wellington competition circuits and have ample hotel and restaurants options within 5-10 miles for our out-of-town clients.

BEC offers full boarding, training, paddock & pasture turnouts and lessons.  We pride ourselves on the community we have created here, the happiness and health of our horses, and the ability of our riders. Top quality care is our primary focus, as well as our friendly and helpful staff.
BEC focuses on the healthy development of rider and horses as teams, emphasizes teaching safe and classical riding at all ages, and offers a broad range of education opportunities from clinics, working student positions, riding demonstrations, and educational programs for younger riders.

The BEC Team!

Owner, Head Trainer, Clinician

Lisa Smit, Owner, Head Trainer, Clinician

Lisa has over 25 years experience, is an accomplished rider, and has competed through Grand Prix level dressage, earning her Bronze, Silver, and Gold United States Dressage Federation medals. Lisa has ridden open jumpers, has qualified for the equitation medal finals, and has competed through Training Level eventing. She has several hunter, jumper, and equitation prospects that she is bringing along as well.

Head Groom

Mariah has been riding on and off for 8 years. Her training includes for hunters and dressage. She learned about BEC from a friend and decided to pay a visit. She was hooked from day 1. Her responsibilities include grooming for Lisa Smit when she is training and administering horse first aid.
Something most don’t know about Mariah is that she was a professionally trained ballerina as a teenager!

Amanda began riding hunters in 1998. She continued to work in the industry part-time until 2009, when she relocated with her husband to North Pole, Alaska. In 2015 Amanda returned to the Space Coast, where she found her horsey-home at BEC. Amanda lives in Palm Bay with her husband, Ian, and two children, Bryony and Rhys.

Hunter/Jumper/Eventing Trainer

TJ has taken students to the AECs in both 2015 and 2016. He also qualified students for the PHA Equitation finals in 2017. He has himself evented through the 2* level. He is currently riding his OTTB mare who was featured with TJ in the 2017 Retired Racehorse Project for both show jumping and eventing. TJ has a great personality and the best ring-side manner we've seen in a long time! You can tell he truly loves his job!!

Barn Manager

Kristal came to BEC from snowy New Hampshire. She has spent her entire lifetime with horses. Her knowledge and dedication show in the way she runs the barn and manages the staff. Kristal has two horses, an Arabian cross mare in training as a dressage horse and a retired Arabian show horse, turned from grumpy old man to a grumpy old man who loves kids and a good face rub! Kristal also has two adult sons and a wonderful rescue dog named Porter!

Working Student/Assistant Trainer

A Merideth Manor graduate, Sabrina combines her love of early childhood development and horses here at BEC! Sabrina teaches many of our new riders, giving them a solid foundation in both their horsemanship and riding skills. She is working to earn her USDF Bronze medal and enjoys riding many of our BEC training horses under Lisa's watchful eye! Sabrina's heart lies in Eventing and she hopes to eventually have a horse of her own or in training for eventing competition.

Working Student / Assistant Trainer

Sarah grew up in Brevard County and rode with Lisa as a youngster. She has apprenticed with both a H/J trainer and a Western Pleasure trainer out of state. Sarah came home to Brevard in September and started with the BEC team as soon as she was unpacked! Sarah's dream is to ride in the Olympics one day and she shows her grit by getting on any horse we put in front of her! She is a brave and determined young adult with a very bright future ahead of her!

It's so nice to have students who care about their progression and take the time to work on their seat! Here is Robin and the remarkable Remi in a seat lesson during the clinic, one of four seat lessons in today's clinic. We love our BEC student's dedication and commitment to progress!!
